Settle & Carlise Railway - Running between Carlisle and Leeds this station in Nth Yorkshire was an important railway spot where two railway lines spanned across into Cumbria and Yorkshire fighting for express connectivity to Scotland. Three stations have served this historic market town. Settle Junction closed in 1877 when this grade 2 listed station originally called ‘Settle New’ designed by the Midland Railway company architect John Holloway Sanders opened at the same time as the line off to Carlisle on the 1 May 1876. The railway’s availability just south of the kiln site was built about 1849 by the Little North Western coming from Leeds or over to Ingleton – 25 years before the Settle to Carlisle railway was built.
